Brake Pad Replacement

Different driving patterns have a dramatic effect on how often your brakes need servicing.

For example, a set of brake pads could last up to 60,000 miles or more on a car driven mostly on the motorway. However the brakes on the same car driven mostly in busy city centre traffic may last only 25,000 miles or less.

Front brakes normally wear out before rear brakes because they handle a higher percentage of the braking load, especially on front-wheel drive cars.

It is often recommended that brake pads should be replaced if the pad friction material has worn down to a thickness of 3 millimetres. Brake disc thickness should be measured if they are at or below the manufacturer's safe minimum thickness specification they should be replaced.

Most modern vehicles will have a brake pad wear sensor feature, which will illuminate a light on the dash to warn you of the low brake pad level.

We can replace the pads of your vehicle in keeping with the OEM factory fitted items with genuine parts.

Or if you prefer up rate performance pads, specific track pads, we can supply and fit these to your requirements.

Brake Disc Replacement

When brake discs are brand new, they come at a thickness that is determined by the manufacturer. This is decided in the engineering phase of vehicle production, with the constant friction from the brake pads and the forces and heat exerted on the brake discs taken into account. It is recommended that you get your brake discs changed when they reach the minimum thickness that is determined by the manufacturer of the vehicle.

With all the components of the braking system, including the discs, calipers and pads, there are tell-tale signs that one of these components are worn and need changing.

These signs include –

  • Steering wheel wobbling when driving
  • Brake pedal less responsive
  • Brake performance reduced
  • Warped brake disc
  • Grinding sound when braking

It is easier to identify when your brake pads need changing more than the brake disc. If you notice any of the signs listed, there is a possibility that it could be worn brake pads as they share the same tell-tale signs as worn brake discs. If you notice any of these signs you should get your brakes checked straight away.

As with all of the service related items we have to offer.

We will always suggest replacing the items with genuine VAG parts to ensure a perfect fit, along with keeping within the conditions of your vehicles warranty.

However, we can also offer up rated performance Brake discs.

Brake Fluid Replacement

One of the most important parts of your servicing regime.

Brake Fluid itself absorbs moisture over time.

This moisture converts to vapour over 100 degrees Celsius sooner than the actual brake fluid itself.

This vapour when compressed, unlike fluid a will cause a drastic decrease in braking performance even causing brake failure and will also give excessive brake pedal travel and a spongy feel when applying the brakes.

It is recommended that your brake fluid is replaced every 2 years.

We can offer an higher spec of brake fluid for modified vehicles or vehicles that will be used on track days, this is at an additional cost.

Likewise, we can also offer braided brake hoses to help with braking performance for modified vehicles or vehicles that will be used on track days, this allows for a more consistent braking system under extreme use and heat.
